1-7-09: Contract Ratified by Legislature...

Today the Orange County Legislature ratified by a 21-0 vote the proposed agreement between CSEA and the county. The agreement had already been ratified by the CSEA membership. This completed the final step in the ratification process.

12-29-08: Proposed Contract Ratified...

Ballots were counted by the American Arbitration Association on December 29th, 2008 in their NYC office.
The results are as follows:

YES Votes: 1,114
NO Votes: 440

Therefore the contract has been ratified by our membership and will go to the Orange County Legislature for a vote on Thursday, Jan. 8th, 2009. Once ratified by the legislature, the new contract will take effect.

11-19-08: Memorandum of Agreement Reached...

Members of the CSEA Orange County Unit 7900 Negotiating Committee voted this evening in favor of accepting a proposed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Orange County for a new five-year contract.

The next step will be for the general membership to vote on the proposed agreement. The previous agreement expired Dec. 31, 2006. The new proposed agreement comes after CSEA and representatives for the county participated in mediation sessions with Howard Edelman, a fact finder appointed through the Public Employee Relations Board (PERB). Mail balloting will be conducted by the American Arbitration Association.

“Given the current state of the economy, the negotiating committee felt it was in the best interest of our members to bring back this agreement to them for a vote,” said Unit President Ron Greene. “We will be scheduling informational meetings as soon as possible for the members, so we can address any questions they might have.”

An initial agreement was reached after a marathon mediation session last week, but CSEA did not formally agree to bring the MOA back to the county unit membership until today due to several minor issues that were not finalized during that mediation session.

Details of the tentative agreement and copies of the memorandum of agreement will be distributed to the membership and posted on this website as soon as possible. Announcements of general membership meeting dates and locations will also be distrubuted and posted on the website once they are scheduled.
